Indiegogo_Berlinale_2015

After our most successful year to date, film continues to be one of the strongest verticals on the Indiegogo platform. We have been working closely with filmmakers, empowering them to retain creative control, own their film and engage with a worldwide audience ahead of the film launch. As part of this strategy Indiegogo is now joining forces with Berlinale Talent, the annual summit and networking platform of the Berlin International Film Festival for 300 emerging film creatives from all over the world, which takes place from the 5th to the 15th of February 2015 in Berlin.

Kajaki: a True Story

We will kick this off on February 5th with a free screening of the BAFTA nominated film, Kajaki: The True Story. Following the film, there will be a brief Q&A with the film’s Executive Producer Gareth Ellis-Unwin and Director/Producer Paul Katis. Kajaki: The True Story depicts an incident involving a group of soldiers, mostly from the British Army’s 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (3 Para), who were trapped in a minefield while stationed at the Kajaki Dam in Afghanistan in 2006. Doors open at 9:00 p.m. (local time). The screening starts promptly at 9:30 p.m. Reserve your spot: one ticket per guest, first-come, first serve.

The Summit programme of Berlinale Talents offers a range of master classes and interactive panel discussions for young filmmakers. As part of its support for this initiative, Indiegogo will be hosting a network break-out session on Monday the 9th at HAU3, Top floor, Tempelhofer Ufer 10, Berlin. This session will offer filmmakers the opportunity to meet with the Indiegogo film team and get specialist advice on crowdfunding for their films.

Additionally, Berlinale Talent will launch a partnership page on the Indiegogo site to offer bespoke advice, support and mentoring for film and creative projects that crowdfund on Indiegogo and have been selected through the Berlinale Talents. It is expected that at least four films will crowdfund under this partnership in 2015.

Our team also just came back from CineMart 2015, an event that offered filmmakers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects funded, providing advice and support to filmmakers that were attending this event in Rotterdam in January.

UK Film & Creative of Indiegogo Miranda Fleming was one of the panel guests at the Rotterdam Film Panel Strange Bedfellows and Creative Collaboration last month: “I have worked with many alumni from the Berlin Talent Campus over the years, now named Berlinale Talents,” she said “and we are delighted to be joining forces with them this year and looking to 2015 to crowdfund a handful of feature and shorts projects under a new partnership.”

Independent films are thriving in Europe; however, finding funding for independent projects remains a challenge for filmmakers and creatives alike. Indiegogo offers an effective and easy to use platform to fund these projects, whatever stage of the process they are at, allowing them complete control. Successful Indiegogo film campaigns include: Iron Sky 2, based out of Finland raised $560,000; the German film The Dreamlands funded 50,000 euros; the Greek film Alpha funded 65,000 Euros, and Dario Argento’s raised $200k for his new feature film The Sandman starring Iggy Pop based out of Italy.

The UK continues to show a strong hold on crowdfunding with Simon’s Cat being the most funded UK film ever on a crowdfunding platform raising £310,000 in 2014 and Kajaki, which raised development finance was recently nominated for “Outstanding Debut” for the 2015 BAFTAS.
