On Sunday, Indiegogo’s co-founder and CEO, Slava Rubin, took the big stage at the Austin Convention Center for his SXSW Speaker Session, “Go Fund Yourself.” After an introduction by colleague and “Employee 1,” Adam Chapnick, Slava kicked things off with the jarring and fantastically creative pitch video from the Indiegogo campaign, “The Body”:
With the crowd’s heightened attention, Slava went through the “10 Myths of Entrepreneurship,” which transcended purely business practices and apply to any passionate person with an idea they care about.
The 10 Myths of Entrepreneurship:
- There’s such a thing as a “right time” to start a business.
- You need lots of money.
- You need to stick to your research and business plan.
- Values and culture don’t matter.
- It’s all about marketing.
- It’s all about the idea.
- Only go after the biggest market.
- It’s obvious when you have something good.
- Campaigns success is a myth.
- Your mom will never understand what you do.
Slava’s mom (pictured above) did ultimately understand what Indiegogo does, Slava told the SXSW audience.
