3D Printed Prosthetics and Social Good: Our Weekly News Roundup

By

You might think that CEOs and founders of tech companies are permanently glued to email, but you’d be wrong! If they can take space away from devices, so can you. Slava Rubin himself gives some ideas here.

Tech

If you missed the group cry at stand up when we all watched this campaign video, you need not have FOMO. One of our latest equity offerings, Unlimited Tomorrow, is on a mission to make prosthetics affordable for anyone who needs them. In case you’re in need of a quick reminder that your youth is behind you and you’ll never catch up, I encourage you to learn more about the 22-year-old who figured out how to 3D print them. But actually, I think you’ll be inspired.

Social Impact

This one is inspiring too, but I warn you that it might also make you rip your hair out and wail in despair. There is only one abortion clinic left in South Dakota, and it’s in danger of being closed. This Planned Parenthood also provides essential reproductive health services to women who can’t afford them anywhere else. This is particularly devastating because it is low-income women who most often have unintended pregnancies because their access to birth control is so limited. If you want to learn more about this issue, I’ll send you my senior thesis. In the meantime, check out the campaign that Oregon-based clothing company Wildfang is running to save it. Women deserve better than a 300 miles round trip just to take care of themselves. Women deserve to be healthy and safe, no matter how much money they have.

Where are they now?

After that, we’re all in need of some laughs, especially some laughs provided by an incredible lady. Gilda Radner was an SNL OG, and seemed to be about as fearless as you can get. Using recordings of conversations between Gilda and a reporter tasked with writing her life’s story, Lisa D’Apolito made a movie to celebrate her life. “Love, Gilda” will be premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. Methinks that will be a good time to visit NYC.
