In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2021, Indiegogo is donating $17,000 from Tips for Indiegogo to the Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus. Last year, Indiegogo made a commitment to contribute to meaningful causes using funds raised through tips, and this is the latest in a series of donations made possible by backers like you.
We’d like to thank our community for helping us make a difference. Tips for Indiegogo is a feature we launched last year that allows backers to add a small additional donation to their campaign contributions. Indiegogo then gives a portion of backer tips to the causes that matter most to the Indiegogo community. Our donation to Advancing Justice – ALC allows us to fulfill our ongoing promise to use funds raised from tips to make a positive impact.
Honoring AAPI Heritage Month
AAPI Heritage Month is observed annually every May. It’s a month during which we pay tribute to the generations of Asians and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America’s history. AAPI Heritage Month is a perfect time to learn about different Asian and Pacific Island cultures, celebrate the contributions AAPI groups have made to American society and culture, and reflect on the marginalizations they continue to face.
This is an especially pressing time to be working against AAPI discrimination and uplifting AAPI voices. Hate crimes and racist attacks against Asians and Pacific Islanders have been on the rise over the last year, with senior citizens in particular being violently targeted. Indiegogo condemns bigotry, hatred, and racism in all forms. We stand in solidarity with the AAPI community.
Defending the rights of low-income AAPI communities
That’s why we’re proud to support Advancing Justice – ALC with a $17,000 donation this month. Our contribution will go towards helping low-income AAPI communities receive justice in housing disputes, immigration issues, civil rights violations, and more. It comes on the heels of our recent donation to Stop AAPI Hate, an organization that works to bring justice and raise awareness of the many issues facing the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus is the nation’s first legal and civil rights organization serving the low-income Asian Pacific American communities. Their mission is to promote, advance, and represent the legal and civil rights of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the US. The vast majority of Asians and Pacific Islanders in America are immigrants and refugees, and Advancing Justice – ALC helps protect their rights. The organization also helps to set national policies in affirmative action, voting rights, Census, and language rights.
