Gadgets have been replaced with guitars. Promotional t-shirts have been replaced with flannel and tank tops. Keynotes replaced with keyboards. Free beer replaced with free beer. SXSW Interactive is over, and the Music festival is just barely done with sound check.
Amidst hundreds of bands and seemingly just as many venues, our Music Team — led by Karen Bair and Garrett Grohman — have hit the streets to meet, greet, and take the pulse on upcoming artists in the music industry.
Indiegogo music’s Karen Bair with current Indiegogo campaigner Jonny Craig.
They’ve had a busy first 36 hours, starting with Amanda Palmer’s panel, “The Anatomy of Amanda F*cking Palmer: An Inside Look,” where, afterward, they were able to meet with the artist, crowdfunder, and Indiegogo friend.

In anticipation of this Friday’s (sure to be insane) SXSW Showcase, Karen and Garrett then headed over to Coyote Ugly where they hung out with Indiegogo partners, the Artery Foundation to learn more about their emerging artists. Stay tuned for a recap on Friday’s barnburner.
In between speaking with friends at Rocket Records, mega-crowdfunding supporter Tim of The Impaler Speaks, and fist-bumping David Grohl, Karen and Garrett were also able to catch stand-out performances by Middle Class Rut, The High Highs, Diane, and “the ever beguiling” Sky Ferreira. Karen also “fell in love” with Milk Carton Kids at the Pandora Discovery Den — “amazingly talented musicians and great stand up comics!”
For my own part, I’ve been catching up with Indiegogo-funded musicians like, Exit, backstage…
…As well as Hiatus Kaiyote after their SXSW showcase of Australian artists. The band raised over $16,000 on Indiegogo to get from Down Under to SXSW and tour the US.

I was also lucky enough to see FIDLAR nearly incite a riot at the Scoot Inn, Diplo run across the audience in an inflated ball at the Major Lazer show, and CHVRCHES charm as they revealed more songs on their upcoming album. It’s an exciting time to be listening to music, and Indiegogo is looking forward to having a big part in that!
Much like the Interactive festival, crowdfunding is definitely still hanging in the air here with rockstar cigarette smoke, and we’re excited to see what the final weekend of SXSW brings!
