Indiegogo Trends: Wingardium Leviosa! Quidditch and Crowdfunding Go Together Like Dust and a Broom

As you’re exploring campaigns on Indiegogo, you probably aren’t expecting to come across those that are raising money on behalf of J.K. Rowling’s iconized, broom-based sport. However, a simple search of “Quidditch” on Indiegogo produces surprising results — nearly 20 campaigns around the world currently funding to bring Quidditch teams and enthusiasts to this year’s World Cup in Florida.

In fact, to date, Indiegogo has helped raise over $56,000 for a global community of Chasers, Beaters, Keepers, and Seekers. Though especially popular amongst university teams in the US and Canada, we’ve seen magical campaigns in Mexico, Italy, France, and Australia — a testament to the global nature of our platform. Rice University

These merry muggles have already nearly doubled their goal, and their Seeker even dyed her hair blue to help make it happen!

With no direct funding from the university, this quidditch team is using Indiegogo to supplement their usual fundraising and help get them to the World Cup!

Paris Phenix

These Parisian Quidditch pioneers are trying to build the profile of the sport in France while following up on their European Championship victory at the World Cup!

University of Southern Mississippi

This team isn’t even two years old, but they were able to qualify for the World Cup with a good finish in this year’s South Regional Tournament. They’re raising $1,000 to travel 600 miles!
