In the World This Week: Dapper Clothes for Short Guys & Beer for Good

By

Ash and Anvil Indiegogo

It’s been a while! We are truly hurtling towards the holidays at a terrifying speed, right past Cyber Monday and #GivingTuesday. Even Indiegogo has embraced the annual day of discounts, and our campaigners made some very generous discounts on products that are shipping now. And on #GivingTuesday, we saw the global community come together right on Generosity, donating at least once every minute. Every single minute of the whole day!

But that is not all! CEO Slava Rubin got real at a ProductHunt Live Chat, which is basically a slightly less out-of-control version of a Reddit AMA. Senior Director of Chicago Outreach Kate Drane was named one of Chicago Inno’s Chicago 50 on Fire B2C Tech Winners, and Director of Tech Ben Bateman was on a Chinese TV show. I need a nap after just typing all of that.

From Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw to the Cribs celebrity with 500 pairs of sneakers, there is definitely a market for Shiftwear‘s customizable shoes. An app lets you change the image displayed, so now your shoes can match any outfit. For now they are only available in high or low top sneaker, but if they’re smart they’ll move into pumps and wedges soon enough.

You might not know this, but turns out that it’s pretty hard to find prosthetic limbs for a guinea pig. After building a cart for their Chihuahua with missing front legs, the couple behind Pawsthetics is now raising funds to do on a larger scale. I don’t think I can properly describe what a tiny dog looks like basically strapped into a rollerskate, so just look at the campaign page. You won’t regret it.

Video Game Wins

I know I’ve talked up Indivisible before, but I am here to declare to all Skullgirls lovers that Lab Zero games hit its goal to make its next game. The campaigners have been given many props for being so straightforward about exactly how much they need to make the game. A campaign strategist’s dream. So start physical therapy for carpal tunnel now – it’s coming!

Social Innovation News

You can now drink beer for a cause other than getting drunk (though as far as I am concerned that is sufficient). The Good Beer Company is “good” in every way. The team is raising money to make The Great Barrier Beer, which you probably guessed will go towards reef-saving efforts since you are very smart and intuitive. Cheers to that, am I right?

Other Crowdfunding News

You all probably know that I am not a short guy (or maybe you don’t), but as a short girl I sympathize with the struggle of clothes that are always too long. Because there is stupidly no “petite” men’s section in the heteronormative world we live in, Ash and Anvil is finally making shirts that actually look good for guys between 5’2 and 5’8.

Where are they now? #BuyPens

The man that put a face on the plight of Syrian refugees is not just rebuilding his life, but is using the funds from his campaign to help others like him. He definitely subscribes to the “if you give a man a fish…” paradigm and is not just giving away money. He has started a bakery, a restaurant, and kebab shop where he employs other refugees. I guess good really does beget good.
