Want to know how to take better selfies at night time? We’re happy to help!
When it comes to photography, lighting is everything. That’s why we’re running an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for BIGSOFTI, a portable soft light for your phone, laptop and camera. BIGSOFTI provides a big, bright, soft source of light, which lets you take more flattering photos and stand out on video calls. A big light wraps gently around features on the face, and a soft light evens out skin tone and diffuses any hard shadows — so bumps and creases disappear.
Tips for taking selfies at night
Find your background.
When taking any photo, your first consideration should be finding the most interesting background to give your image some context. If you’re at a nightclub, for example, you might want to show off the stylish design of the bar behind you. But in a dark room, the bar will probably be much brighter than your face. So adding some soft light on your beautiful face with BIGSOFTI lets you take a photo that captures a cool background, regardless of the lighting situation.
Match the color temperature of your surroundings.
Your pictures will come out better if you use a light that has a similar color temperature to what’s around you. Daylight is cool, with a blue-ish look, for example. Tungsten light (what you’d normally find in a bar), is warm and yellow. BIGSOFTI has three simple color temperature settings to give you control over your image, so you can use it in a wide variety of scenarios.
Get overhead lights to work in your favor.
Overhead lighting can cast shadows on your face and make your undereyes look dark. You can adjust BIGSOFTI’s intensity and pick a strength that fills in these shadows and drowns out the overhead light in your photo. It can help turn a harsh overhead light into a lovely bit of hair illumination.
